Use the teacher workspace

A tour of the day-to-day tools subject teachers use for students, scores, assignments, tests, attendance, and materials.

The Teacher workspace is where subject teachers do their daily work. It shows only the courses assigned to you for the active session and term, so you are never hunting through the whole school to find your classes.

Getting in

  1. Sign in at your school’s login page with your own staff account.
  2. If you hold more than one role, use the workspace switcher in the top bar and choose Teacher.
  3. Your courses for the current session and term are listed.
  4. Select a course to open its menu.

If the list is empty, you have not yet been assigned to any class courses. Ask your administrator to assign you under Class Courses — this is by far the most common first-day question.

The course menu

  • Students — the class list for that subject, so you always know exactly who you are teaching and assessing.
  • Assessments — enter and review continuous assessment and exam scores, with import and export where you prefer to work in a spreadsheet.
  • Assignments — post homework and classwork, set due dates, and review what students submit from the portal.
  • Online Tests — build computer-based tests, control how students access them, and grade submissions.
  • Attendance — mark lesson attendance for your period with that class.
  • Materials — share resources, notes, and schemes of work that students can open from the portal.
  • Timetable — see your teaching slots for the week.

Depending on your school’s plan and your permissions, you may also see analytics on class performance, messages from parents, and HR shortcuts for your own leave and payslips.

A typical teaching week

  1. Start of week — check your timetable and post any materials students need.
  2. Each lesson — mark attendance and note anything worth following up.
  3. Mid-week — set an assignment with a realistic due date and review incoming submissions.
  4. After marking — enter scores in Assessments while the work is fresh rather than saving it all for the end of term.
  5. End of term — complete every column, then confirm with your class teacher that the broadsheet is clean.

Tips

  • Enter marks as you go. Steady entry across the term is far less stressful than a marathon in the final week.
  • Save often. Long sessions of unsaved work are the easiest thing to lose.
  • Use materials to reduce repetition. Posting notes once saves answering the same question many times.
  • Set due dates families can see. Clear deadlines in the portal reduce late submissions.

Common issues

My course list is empty

You have no class courses for the active session and term. Only an administrator can assign them.

A student is missing from my class list

They are not on the class roster. Administrators manage this under Class Students.

Score fields will not accept entries

The term may be closed for editing. Ask an administrator whether entry can be reopened.

I teach the class but someone else is named on the course

Ask your administrator to update the teacher on the class course so the course appears in your workspace.

What’s next

If you are also a class teacher, switch to the Class Teacher workspace for whole-class duties such as daily attendance, behaviour, and report cards.
