Class teacher daily work
Daily attendance, behaviour, class feed, memories, and the whole-class reporting a form teacher is responsible for.
Class teachers look after a form class as a whole, across every subject. Where a subject teacher is focused on one course, you are responsible for the learners themselves: whether they are present, how they are behaving, how they are progressing overall, and how their families experience the class.
Getting in
- Sign in with your staff account.
- Use the workspace switcher and choose Class Teacher.
- If you look after more than one class, use Switch class to move between them.
The workspace only appears if you are named as class teacher on a class. If it is missing, ask an administrator to check the class record.
Daily tasks
Daily attendance
- Open Daily Attendance at the start of the school day.
- Mark each learner: present, absent, late, sick, excused, or on a school activity.
- Save. Attendance becomes visible to administrators and, where enabled, to families in the portal.
- Correct mistakes the same day where possible — attendance feeds reports and follow-up.
Note that daily attendance is separate from the lesson attendance subject teachers mark. Daily attendance answers “was this child in school today?”
Behaviour and rewards
- Record incidents factually and promptly, while details are accurate.
- Record positive notes too — a record made up only of problems gives families a distorted picture.
- Use the record when preparing report card comments; it is far better than relying on memory.
Keeping families connected
Class feed
Post announcements to your class — reminders, changes to the routine, or notes about upcoming activities. This is ideal for lightweight day-to-day messages that do not warrant a school-wide newsletter.
Class memories
- Upload photos from class activities, trips, and events.
- Tag the students who appear so families can find their own child’s moments.
- Schedule a post if you want it to appear later.
- Notify parents when a memory is published, where that option is enabled.
- Where your school allows parents to contribute photos, review and approve their submissions before they appear.
Follow your school’s policy on photographs and consent. If a family has asked that their child not appear in shared photos, respect that when tagging and publishing.
Student welfare
Where welfare features are enabled, open a counselling referral when a learner needs support beyond the classroom. Keep notes factual and appropriate for a school record.
Weekly and termly work
- Academic Overview — see how your class is performing across subjects.
- Broadsheet — the single best place to spot missing marks before reporting deadlines.
- Report Cards — compile, comment on, preview, and publish results for your class.
- Check the broadsheet weekly during the second half of term.
- Chase missing marks early, while subject teachers still have time.
- Draft comments as you go rather than writing the whole class in one sitting.
- Preview one card before compiling the rest.
Common issues
Attendance will not save for a past date
Older dates may be closed. Ask an administrator if a correction is needed.
A learner is on my list who has left
Administrators manage rosters under Class Students.
Parents say they did not see my class feed post
Confirm the post was published rather than left as a draft, and check that families are signed in to the portal.
I cannot switch to my second class
You are only named as class teacher on one class. An administrator can update the other class record.
What’s next
As the term ends, focus on the broadsheet and report cards, then coordinate with your administrator on publishing results.
