Enter scores and assessments

How teachers record continuous assessment and exam marks, and how class teachers review the whole picture.

Score entry is where teaching turns into reporting. Subject teachers record marks against the courses assigned to them; class teachers then review the whole class before report cards are compiled and published.

Before heavy score entry begins

Administrators should confirm a few settings under Sessional Activities so that teachers are not asked to change their work halfway through a term:

  • Assessment categories — the components you mark, such as continuous assessment elements and the exam, and how they combine.
  • Online test types — where computer-based tests should feed into the record.
  • Report templates — the layout results will eventually be printed on, including whether affective and psychomotor ratings are required.

Agreeing these once, before the term, prevents the most common source of frustration: teachers re-entering marks because the structure changed.

For subject teachers: entering scores

  1. Open the Teacher workspace and select the course you want to mark.
  2. Choose Assessments from the course menu.
  3. The class list appears with columns for each assessment component.
  4. Enter continuous assessment marks as the term progresses, rather than leaving everything to the end.
  5. Enter exam scores when marking is complete.
  6. Save regularly. Do not rely on a single save at the end of a long session.
  7. Review totals and check for blanks before you consider the course finished.

Working with spreadsheets

If you prefer to mark offline, use the export and import options where they are offered. Export the class list, fill in the marks in the same layout, then import the file back. Keep the structure of the exported file intact — reordering or renaming columns is the usual cause of a failed import.

For class teachers: reviewing the class

  • Broadsheet — every subject for every student on one screen. This is the fastest way to spot gaps, outliers, and subjects that have not been marked.
  • Assessment Setup — confirm the class is being assessed against the right components.
  • Affective and psychomotor ratings — add behavioural and skills ratings where your report template includes them.
  1. Open the broadsheet once continuous assessment is largely complete and chase missing marks early.
  2. Review again after exams, before compiling report cards.
  3. Check unusual results with the subject teacher rather than editing marks yourself.

What you’ll see

  • Saved marks totalled according to your school’s assessment structure.
  • Gaps clearly visible on the broadsheet, so nothing is missed at reporting time.
  • Scores flowing through to report cards once the class teacher compiles them.

Common issues

The score fields are locked

Entry is closed when the session or term is in a read-only state. Ask an administrator whether editing can be reopened for a genuine correction.

A student is missing from the list

They are not on the class roster for this session. An administrator adds them under Class Students.

Totals look wrong

Check the assessment structure for the class. If components were changed mid-term, some marks may sit under a component that is no longer counted.

My import failed

Export a fresh template, paste your marks into it without changing the column layout, and import again.

Two teachers entered marks for the same subject

Agree one owner for score entry per class course. The teacher named on the class course should be the one recording marks.

What’s next

When marks are complete and the broadsheet is clean, move on to compiling and publishing report cards.
